Coach Docs

Run onboarding, start a live session, approve roles, and send signals without guessing through the UI.

01

Complete coach onboarding

When you first open PitchTAC, a welcome screen introduces the app's three core capabilities: Silent Pitch Signals — Send pitch calls discreetly to your players.

  1. 1

    Start from the welcome flow

Silent Pitch Signals — Send pitch calls discreetly to your players. Apple Watch Integration — Players receive signals on their wrist. Pitch Tracking — Track pitch counts and game stats.

  2. 2

    Choose Coach as your role

Coaches proceed to tier selection. Players proceed to profile setup.

  3. 3

Select a tier and finish profile setup

Coaches choose a subscription tier during onboarding. The tier determines which features are available. See Subscription Tier Details for the full breakdown. You can compare all features side-by-side during onboarding by tapping Compare all features.

Create a live game session

Tapping Create Live Game opens a multi-step wizard.

  1. 1

    Pick the session mode first

Single Device requires an Apple Watch paired to your iPhone with PitchTAC installed. If no watch is detected, a warning appears but you can still create the game. Standard (multi-device) is locked on the free Bullpen tier. An upgrade prompt is shown.

  2. 2

Set game details and lineup context

Game Name — Give the game a name (e.g., "vs. Tigers - District Semifinals"). Home or Away — Select whether your team is Home or Away. This determines which half of the first inning you start in: Home: bottom of the 1st. Away: top of the 1st. Tracking Mode — Choose the level of data you want to capture. See Tracking Modes for details.

  3. 3

Invite players and review before start

Nearby Devices — A grid shows devices that have PitchTAC open nearby. Tap a device to invite them. Role Assignment — When inviting, choose their role: Player — Standard field player. Pitcher — Receives pitch signals and (optionally) streams heart rate. Catcher — Connected player with catcher-specific role.

Before You Move On

  • Game name is clear enough for players to identify
  • Tracking mode matches the session goal
  • Pitcher assignment is confirmed before start

Approve join requests and assign roles

Invite nearby devices, review pending requests, and assign the correct role before anyone enters the live session.

  1. 1

    Handle invites during setup

Nearby devices appear automatically via Bluetooth discovery. Tap a device to select a role and send an invitation. Invited players see a prompt to accept or deny. Approved players appear with their role badge.

  2. 2

Use the session sheet for live management

View the session code (6-digit, shareable). Send a test signal to verify connectivity. See connection health (e.g., "3/3 connected"). Manage the pitcher — View the current pitcher or tap Change to substitute. Handle join requests — Late-joining players appear with approve/deny buttons. View connected devices — Each player shows their name, role, device, and connection quality dot.

  3. 3

    Keep spectator access controlled

Spectators appear in their own section within the Session Sheet. Maximum of 5 spectators per game. Each spectator shows their signal delivery preference (Phone, Watch, or Both).

Role accuracy matters

Pitcher, catcher, player, and spectator flows behave differently once live play begins. Treat role assignment as part of session setup, not a casual label.

Call pitches in a live game

The live game screen is your command center. Here's what you'll see: The main area of the live game screen shows a pitch grid:

  1. 1

Read the live game controls first

Connection Health Dot — Green (all connected), orange (some issues), red (major issues). Tap to open the Session Sheet. Game Log — Tap to view the pitch-by-pitch timeline. End Game — Red stop button to end the game.

  2. 2

Send the signal from the pitch grid

The main area of the live game screen shows a pitch grid: Favorites / All Toggle — Switch between your frequently-used pitches and the full arsenal.

  3. 3

Advance state and end the session cleanly

When you advance the inning, a between innings screen appears: Large "Between Innings" icon and label.

Before You Move On

  • Run one test signal before first pitch
  • Check the connection indicator if a player misses a call
  • Use end game instead of just closing the app
